AngloGold Ashanti is committed to two-way engagement with the community to share timely information and receive feedback about the proposed North Bullfrog Project. Working collaboratively with our stakeholders, we aim to build strong partnerships demonstrating our commitment to responsible mining and respectful relationships with the communities in which we operate.

Community engagement

AngloGold Ashanti believes effective engagement with the community is vital to the success and sustainability of our initiatives at the proposed North Bullfrog Project. Our goal is to build open, honest and transparent relationships with all our stakeholders. By engaging with our community, we can better understand local needs, build trust and enhance collaboration.

AngloGold Ashanti established a Community Working Group, which serves as a platform to engage and address the priorities and concerns of Beatty and the surrounding communities. This group, comprising AngloGold Ashanti employees, local leadership, and community representatives, functions in an advisory capacity. It aims to enhance the quality of life in these communities by fostering open discussions and aligning AngloGold Ashanti’s business operations with local interests. The group meets quarterly, adhering to principles of transparency, integrity, and accountability, and deliberates on a range of issues from economic impact to social welfare, providing recommendations to management.

Our ongoing engagement helps ensure all stakeholders can participate and provide feedback on the proposed North Bullfrog Project. This includes planned tribal engagement, where we are working with local Indigenous communities to foster mutual understanding, respect cultural heritage, and address any concerns.

The Beatty Foundation

The Beatty Foundation, founded by AngloGold Ashanti in 2023 as a part of our Nevada Projects, is a locally controlled non-profit organization created to enhance the quality of life within the Beatty community. The Foundation provides funding for community development projects intending to improve the socioeconomic well-being of Beatty.

The Foundation provides a valuable opportunity for us to fund and support sustainable projects focused on infrastructure, education, tourism, community activities, recreation and conservation. This outreach also serves as a crucial connection to gather community feedback and facilitate community inputs on Beatty’s socio-economic development plans supported by AngloGold Ashanti. Education and literacy

AngloGold Ashanti is committed to making a positive impact in the community by supporting local schools and funding programs focused on education and literacy. Through initiatives like career days and the summer reading program, the company actively engages with students and fosters their educational growth.

During career days, AngloGold Ashanti employees volunteer their time to connect with students, offering insights into mining-related careers and highlighting the diverse opportunities available within the industry. These efforts aim to inspire the next generation and encourage interest in STEM fields.

The summer reading program, hosted at the local library, provides children with a fun and enriching opportunity to improve their literacy skills while discovering the joy of reading. These programs reflect AngloGold Ashanti’s dedication to education and community engagement, supporting the development and success of local students.

To support education, the Beatty Foundation has funded programming at Beatty schools, including:

  • Close Up, which fosters civic learning through travel to Washington, D.C., and New York City; and
  • Hope Squad, a peer-to-peer, evidence-based suicide prevention intervention

The AngloGold Ashanti Nevada Scholarship Program is dedicated to supporting local students in their pursuit of higher education. Since its inception in 2022, the program has awarded scholarships to students from Beatty High School (BHS) and Pahrump Valley High School (PVHS), recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. To date, 7 scholarships have been awarded, totaling over $17,000, providing valuable financial support to students as they continue their education. Additionally, $10,000 has been allocated for scholarships for qualifying seniors in 2025, further reinforcing AngloGold Ashanti’s dedication to student success. The program reflects AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to investing in local education, helping students from the communities near its Nevada Projects achieve their academic and career aspirations.

Fostering community wellness

We want the local communities in which we operate to be better off for AngloGold Ashanti having been there. In framing our approach to social contribution, we are guided by a set of management standards that outline the philosophy, scope and application of our community development initiatives.

In partnership with local health organizations, we plan to invest in health and welfare programs that directly benefit the local community. These initiatives will range from supporting health clinics to providing resources for wellness programs that promote a healthy lifestyle among community members. The Beatty Foundation granted $25,000 to the Beatty Clinic in 2024 to upgrade the facility’s A/C unit and install two new heat pumps, improving the clinic’s ability to provide care.

The Beatty Food Distribution Program, supported by regional partners Three Square Food Bank and the Nevada Department of Agriculture, plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity in the Beatty community. Held on the second Friday of each month at the Beatty Baptist Church, this initiative ensures fresh produce and essential food items are available to local families and individuals in need. AngloGold Ashanti actively contributes through employee volunteers who assist with unloading, organizing, and distributing food each month. Their dedication strengthens the program, helping serve an average of over 200 individuals and more than 100 households monthly.

AngloGold Ashanti is collaborating with Beatty Water and Sanitation District (BWSD) to upgrade water and sanitation infrastructure. These improvements are crucial for sustainable community development and ensure that our operations contribute positively to local utility services, enhancing quality of life for residents. The Beatty Foundation has also approved funding to upgrade the well used by the town for drinking water.

AngloGold Ashanti is proud to sponsor the annual Beatty Days Festival in downtown Beatty, celebrating the rich legacy of the historic Bullfrog Mining District and highlighting how mining has contributed to the community’s growth. Our dedicated employees are present at our booth, offering an opportunity to discuss the proposed North Bullfrog Project while also joining in the festivities. As a sponsor, we also donate items as prizes, further supporting this beloved local event and strengthening our connection with the community.

Requesting funding

AngloGold Ashanti is pleased to offer the opportunity for organizations serving our host communities to request support for their projects, programs, and events. To ensure our community investments are managed in a responsible, consistent, and ethical manner, the following guidance is provided regarding the consideration of funding/support requests.

Investment Priorities

AngloGold Ashanti’s Nevada Projects community investments and engagement efforts focus on supporting programs, projects, and events that align with the following priorities:

  • Educational Opportunity: Initiatives that expand access to quality education and promote skill development.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Efforts that promote conservation, sustainable resource management, environmental education, outdoor recreation, and improved access to public lands.
  • Community Health, Safety, and Well-Being: Programs that include EMS services, health and wellness initiatives, and public safety improvements.
  • Infrastructure and Economic Development: Supporting the development of public assets such as schools, health facilities, and water resources, enhancing physical infrastructure for improved community connectivity and functionality, and fostering local economic growth through small business development and employment opportunities.

Funding Considerations

While AngloGold Ashanti strives to support impactful projects, funding is not guaranteed and is subject to budget constraints, the volume of requests received, and other project investment priorities. The number of submissions often exceed the available funding, and receiving one-time support does not ensure future or continued funding. AngloGold Ashanti encourages organizations to identify sustainable, long-term funding strategies and prioritize initiatives that promote self-sufficiency through measures such as strategic planning, hiring, securing grants, and other capacity-building efforts.
